Together We Can was a partnership between the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens and the Co-operative Membership to celebrate UN International Year of Co-operatives 2012.
There were nine one day environmental challenges throughout the Northern Region. Fifty people took part in each challenge. These volunteers included employees from local Co-operative Businesses, from the Co-operative Membership and from the host organisation.
The Prudhoe Allotment Challenge Team, (PACT), used this opportunity to:
- improve the image of the allotment site and give the community pride in their town
- and build links with local Co-operative stores, staff and members.
To do this the volunteers painted all the allotment buildings and fences, undertook small repair jobs, weeded paths on the allotment and in the immediate neighbourhood and cut back hedges.
The Challenge gave those who took part the opportunity to work as part of a team to help to complete a valuable environmental task. The day was fully risk assessed, suitable for people with no previous experience and health and safety advice was given. Free lunch and refreshments were provided.
The day was thoroughly enjoyable and profitable in regards to the work completed, with an excellent team spirit amongst all the volunteers. We hope that the visitors who helped us so much enjoyed the day as much as those of us who have benefited from all the hard work undertaken and will remember it with pleasure.
